With an investment between Rs 60,000 and Rs 70,000 crore next five years, SAIL is doubling their manufacturing from 13 million tonnes to 26 million tones per annum with the modernization and upgradation of their plants. Keeping this in mind, the SAIL management has proactively and enterprisingly kept ‘training’ as a top priority, so that changeover to the latest-technology can be executed smoothly, with minimum possible down-times.
The MoU will cover SAIL’s eight steel plants, five mines and ten material handling centers across the country. The Siemens training will be provided to over 1,500 SAIL employees (mainly Electrical/Electronics Engineers/Technicians). The employees will be trained in areas of Automation, Drives, Switchgear and Instrumentations. The courses will also include specific application-based content with extensive practical scenarios. Modules have been designed to ensure that the employees are equipped with the skills to program the software present in the new upgraded machines. The training will be held either in Siemens locations or on the site and will include simulator-based training kits to replicate conditions similar to site.
Reflecting on the MoU, Mr. Vijay Paranjape, Director Siemens Ltd said, “We are extremely proud that SAIL has chosen us as their partner in their endeavor to upgrade the technical skills of their employees. Siemens being a world technology leader in integrated solutions for steel plants and with a widespread presence across the country, is an ideal partner to support SAIL’s extensive training program especially in light of the substantial expansion of their plants.”
The benefits of this technical training program will be increased production, higher safety standards, reduction in breakdowns, increased availability of plant and machinery through timely maintenance, and consequently, an overall reduction in the cost of production across the plants.
