This accreditation received by Siemens marks a pioneering accomplishment in the arena of industrial motors. Siemens motors help customers minimize their energy consumption while increasing their productivity, thus reducing their cost of ownership significantly.
Siemens’ Drives Technology (DT), a division of the Industry Sector, is a leading player in the field of electrical and electronics engineering products. One of the key offering from the Siemens DT division’s robust portfolio is their general purpose motors, which have received the prestigious BEE ‘Star’ rating label from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (a statutory body under the Ministry of Power, Government of India). This accreditation is a testimony to the energy efficiency of the Siemens motors, through effective utilization of power. With this rating, the induction motors from Siemens join a distinguished league of FMCG appliances such as refrigerators, compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and air-conditioners, all valued for their conformance to the highest level of energy efficient performance. The unique endorsement label series allotted for the Siemens equipment is BEE/SIL/0556/09. Initially this label would appear on 8 models of Siemens’ Three-Phase Induction Motors. These motors are used in almost all sectors ranging from farming to metal producing industries.
Mr. Vijay Paranjape, Director Siemens Ltd said, “We are extremely proud to have received this accreditation from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The BEE ‘Star’ label rating is a recognition of Siemens’ persistent efforts to propagate energy efficient motors over the last decade and a confirmation of efforts to increase our ‘Green Portfolio’ As we endeavor to provide maximum value to our clients, our products are setting benchmarks for reliability and efficiency in almost all sectors. Going forward, we will continue to develop energy-saving motors that can fit into virtually every range of industrial application.”
Reflecting on the accreditation, Mr. J.K Verma, Vice President, Drives Technologies, Siemens Ltd. said, “In any industry, the electric motor consumes a significant proportion of the total energy used in the operations. Thus, any motor that conserves energy and guarantees dynamic performance can result in huge savings. The BEE label authenticates the energy efficiency performance of Siemens’ EFF1 and EFF2 motors”.
As the world of industrial motors migrates to newer standards for better efficiencies, Siemens is geared with its distinct offerings and capabilities to address the unique requirements of all customers. Siemens Drive Technologies division has also developed the computer-based software PEP (Payback Estimation Program), which computes energy savings for individual motors or project requirements depending on users need. It also indicates how long it takes for an investment to pay off. The program is suitable for the planning of new plants as well as for existing plant modernization. PEP is designed for the motors offered for constant-loads as well as variable-load applications. Energy-saving motors from Siemens fit into virtually every drive concept.
About Bureau of Energy Efficiency
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (a statutory body under Ministry of Power, Government of India), has been actively working towards promotion of energy efficient products for enhancing energy conservation in the country. The Bureau’s primary goal is to reduce the energy intensity in the economy. In May 2006, the BEE launched a Standards and Labeling program for Electrical Appliances as a means of bringing about awareness and enhancing the use of Energy Efficient Electrical Appliances. The beginning was made with ‘Star’ labeling for refrigerators and CFLs. It was then extended to Air Conditioners and now as a schedule 6 of the same, it is being extended for Motors.
Siemens Drive Technologies (DT) division is a part of the Industry Sector of Siemens Ltd. This division has been enhancing customer productivity and efficiency in industries ranging from aerospace, automobiles, and oil and gas to plastics, packaging, logistics and material handling. The division offers complete electrical and mechanical technologies and components including standard and large drives applications covering the entire drive train.
