On the historic occasion of its 50 years of manufacturing presence, Siemens announced the setting up a green field Steam Turbine factory at Vadodara, Gujarat with an investment of around Rs 300 million. This will be Siemens’ 15th manufacturing facility in India. Over the 50 years, Siemens has achieved manufacturing excellence across its facilities, with many recognized as Centers of Competence.
Siemens Ltd. is setting-up an industrial Steam Turbine factory at Vadodara, Gujarat. This announcement of a Greenfield project was made on the significant occasion of Siemens celebrating its 50th year of manufacturing in India. Siemens has earmarked an investment of about Rs 300 million for this new factory. This is a part of its investment-led growth strategy, which also includes enhancing manufacturing capabilities across the country.
Spread over an area of 6,500 square meters, the new factory will manufacture Single Stage and Multi Stage Steam Turbines for industrial applications. All the components of Steam Turbines up to 45 MW will be manufactured locally. In addition, this new facility will also manufacture key components for the Steam Turbines up to 150 MW and provide after sales and repair services. The green field project will provide direct employment to about 220 persons and will be on stream by December 2006. With sufficient area available for expansion at this location, the plan is to double the manufacturing capacities in the second phase.
The factory will cater to the domestic market below 150 MW and also supply turbine components to Siemens manufacturing facilities in Europe. Conforming to international standards, the company will establish this facility as a ‘Centre of Competence’ for smaller Steam Turbines.
Comments Mr. J Schubert, Managing Director, Siemens Ltd., “This is a happy and proud moment for us at Siemens in India. From a humble beginning of a small workshop under the Mahalaxmi Bridge fifty years ago, to 15 state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities is a successful journey accomplished. En-route, we have achieved Manufacturing Excellence.” He further added, “Right from the beginning, we believed in creating local value-add and generating employment. Fifty years of manufacturing activities is a clear testimony of our commitment and deep-rooted association with India”.
Mr. Schubert further added, “On our Golden Jubilee of manufacturing presence, we are happy to announce that we are setting up a green field factory at Maneja, Vadodara at an investment of about Rs. 300 million. This factory, which will manufacture steam turbines, will give us a better competitive position in the small turbine market. With high growth rate in the industrial sector coupled with deficit in the power supply, we see a huge potential for the small turbine business. We thank the Gujarat Government for their fast approvals and commitment for necessary infrastructure to build a modern, world class manufacturing set up.”
