126 children, 70 volunteers and unlimited levels of fun. This was the scenario at the one-day children’s picnic organized by Siemens Ltd on April 27, 2007, to Water Kingdom (nestled in Gorai, Mumbai) as part of the Caring Hands initiative. Accompanied by their teachers, 126 children from St. Catherine's Home were taken to Water Kingdom in five buses. At the amusement park, the volunteers took charge and walked into the Wave Pool hand in hand with the kids.
As the children ran from one water slide to other – from the wave pool to the drifting river to the Aquadrome to Adventure Amazonia, each ride was enjoyed more than once by the kids.
After over five hours of non-stop thrills and excitement, it was time to change and head back home. The trip to Water Kingdom was an insightful experience with a difference for most of the volunteers. While they felt happy that they were part of this initiative most of them were of the opinion that more needs to be done for these kids. We hope that this is the start of an endearing bond between the employees and the children of St. Catherine's Home.
