The GT46 MAC/ WDG4 and PAC/ WDP4 locos manufactured by Indian Railways are equipped with three types of Electrical Control Cabinets viz ECC 1 , ECC 2 , ECC 3. These control cabinets are equipped with control and protection switchgear for monitoring and controlling different locomotive functions. The brief description of these Cabinets is given below:
ECC 1
The function of ECC 1 is to equip power and control switchgear for various Locomotive functions. It monitors the function of all Locomotive components and provides feedback and reference signal for various Loco function through EM2000 Loco Computer . It houses EM 2000 display which provides crew message to each fault for corrective action and various Locomotive parameters. The EM2000 Computer provides warning signals and directions for Loco functioning and has storage memory to store fault archive for fault analysis and corrective action.
ECC 2
The major function of ECC 2 is to supply for Battery charging to Locomotive Battery Bank. It also houses the control switchgear for the Cranking motors. Some of the important equipments housed in ECC 2 panel are Circuit Breaker for connecting Battery Charging Assembly to the Auxiliary Generator of the Locomotive, Starting Contactors to engage the cranking motors to the Loco prime shaft, Rectifier & Resistor Asm for charging the Locomotive battery bank, Reactor Cu Winding to suppress the circulating currents between the traction converters.
ECC 3
The function of ECC 3 is to supply controlled power to Radiator Cooling fans. It houses the control switchgear for the Radiator Cooling fans. Some of the important equipments inside the ECC 3 panel are AC Contactors for two speed operations of the radiator fans, Transducer Pressure MRPT to monitor main reservoir pressure, Circuit Breakers to protect the Radiator Blower Motors.
